INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR ENGINEERING PTF ON ENHANCED MPNP V1R3 (Enhanced V1R3 must be previously installed.) NEW: EPTF's must now be activated! PLEASE READ. NOTE: If there are engineering PTFs(EPTFs) already on your machines then their compatibility must be verified with a 6611 product engineer first. For additional assistance with EPTF installation, consult the Multiprotocol Network Program Supplement Version 1 Release 3 (Order Number: SD35-0238) 1. Put the diskette into the drive on the router, and login to system manager. 2. Loading the EPTF in the transfer directory: Operations File and Diskette Operations Receive Transfer Directory File Unix Diskette hit ESC 4 to list all files hit ESC 9 to select the file name ENTER (You will get prompted to enter the next diskette if the EPTF has more than one. You will get a completion message when done.) hit ESC 0 to return to the main System Manager Menu hit ESC 3 (or PF3) to go to the fast path prompt type: files_sum filename then hit ENTER (where filename = EPTF name in the transfer directory or use mpnp* for all mpnp images). Example: files_sum mpnp.obj.1.3.0.0.FX12345.bff the check sum number that comes back should be: 0 x (x is the image size) If the above check sum number is not zero, do not proceed. 1st try reloading the EPTF into the transfer directory. If the check sum still does not match then call 6611 support at 1-800-237-5511. 3. Distribute the EPTF to the network: Go to the main menu. ESC 0 Operations Send Transfer Directory File Remote Host via FTP enter the host IP address login to the host set binary mode by typing bi and hitting return (you'll get a message that says something like mode is set to I) put quit 4. Applying the EPTF: Go to the main menu. ESC 0 Software installation and maintenance Apply software Updates select the EPTF or EPTF's from the list and mark them with ESC 9 hit ENTER and follow the prompts. (Re-IPL will not occur until Activated) It is important to note that if the APPLY operation does not succeed (IE out of space or other error) that the operational/ACTIVE code has not been changed. 5. Activating the EPTF: Go to the main menu. ESC 0 Software Installation and Maintenance Activate Applied Software Updates Update Name screen, use cursor to choose the Code/PTF level that the EPTF needs to be activated on top of, "the EPTF Base". Hit Enter. Development Update Name screen, use ESC 9 to select the EPTF or EPTFs that need to be activated. Hit Enter. (Must have 6611 configuration, of the proper version, previously applied or in the diskette drive in order to activate) Schedule Software Activation screen, select update to occur now(yes) or activate/re-ipl later(no). For later, choose the time for the activation. Re-IPL of 6611 will occur upon activation. 6. IF and ONLY IF you need to deactivate/reject the EPTF: (EPTF cannot be rejected without first being 'de-activated') Go to the main menu. ESC 0 Software Installation and Maintenance Activate Applied Software Updates Update Name screen, use cursor to choose the Code/PTF level used prior to the EPTF(eg. NP00383 or committed level). Hit Enter. Development Update Name screen, do not select EPTF(EPTF that you wish to 'de-activate'). Hit Enter. Schedule Software Activation screen(Schedule activate/ipl) After ipl the 'REJECT APPLIED SOFTWARE UPDATES' option can be used to reject unneeded EPTF's, Unneeded EPTF's should be rejected to free up disk space.
